A lot of the reading I have been doing is about 50/50 on waxed dirt vs. peat moss for freeze proofing. What are your all's thoughts on this?

Yes you can use peat and a lite dirt as Mark said but if you live in western Pa like I do with the lake effect weather in January, It's Calcium or Wax dirt. Western Pa trappers have a rough time. One day could be sunny and 50 then the next day be rain and then 8" of snow and then back to 50 and rain, then it starts all over again. It's a battle with mother nature.

Peatmoss for me! Cheaper, and half the work as waxed dirt. Never had a problem with it. I'll use salt at the sets as well once freezing weather kicks in.

Dry dirt works the best for me. I don't wax my traps so salt is out.
