Anybody have a good how-to with dimensions and measurements for building body grip boxes for coons? Thinking of trying some out this year to see how they go. I have some of my own ideas for making them adaptable to putting in trees or setting them on the ground.
Any insight would be welcome, and I will try and make up a picture to explain what I am thinking when I get some time on that paint program hahaha.
Thanks!

I use 5 gal buckets I just melt some slots in them for the springs and a couple holes for the stake and they are good to go!

I use quite a few boxes/cubbies. I make some out of chicken wire for trapping in trees. Most were for 220's but im slowly but surely converting to 160's. what materials are you using and traps? Also, slick trick to holding conis in cubbies a guy showed me, bungee cords, the cars meow im here to tell you.

Sorry, yeah I was looking to build for 220s, and I can force 160s into service if need be. I was thinking something 3 sides plywood and the bottom and the back wire. Leave an 8 inch overhang for the lid, which would then serve as a double duty extension to screw to trees with, as well as helping dog proof if I were to put it on the ground. Thinking the wire bottom maybe to see if they more readily enter when they can walk on the ground/leave litter going in. And I believe its propular convention that the boxes work best when they can see through them (hence the wire back). My bait is in the works, but its going to be a heavy smear bait that can be applied to the lid towards the wire back. Just wondering how you folks like them?
Backwoods, tell me more about these wire cubbies?

Old Mattie Jones had a slick condibear set up for 220s -- it had a bottom only in the center- a 220 on either end -- don't know if he ever put it out on tape -D-

Unless you have a supy of free scrap ywood id go with chicken wire etc. plywood is high. Our chicken wire cubbies start out square but dont hold it forever. Sometimes we makem a double trap setup. We have one farm we can only set DP's and cages in the ground so the tree coni cubbies shine. Old growth oaks, lots of limbs 6'-8' up so i just wire a cubbie in and set the conis, usually 2 an drop some bait in. Whatever falls to the ground helps BUt thi st isnt cat proof. If theres lots of cats go with a sweet bait. I dont make the cubbies long. Most are about 28". Little bigger then the conis im using. Bungee cord the conis and i worem to the limb.
