I am building cage traps for bobcat and fox I was wondering how far from the back I should position the pan. The cages will be 36" long I was thinking approx. 9" would be best, this is my first attempt at building cage traps so I was looking for some opinions with some one that have more experience. The door will be guillotine style and the height will range from 21" to 19" and width from 12" to 10". any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks michael

You might want to consider looking at some other traps and see what theirs are set at...just to kinda give u an idea?

If using the guillotine type door I'd go back as far as I could but leaving room for the bait (or you could hang it to get further back).
The swinging doors kind of make up their minds for the critter when it hits them in the butt often. I did have some 30" deep traps that a fox would hold the door with his butt and take the bait and leave. I changed out the cage for a deeper one and had him on the next check.
