Season started Saturday. I went after two long beards ,that got the best of me that morning. (Henned up ,and followed her right away from me).Monday was heavy rain. Tuesday was heavy rain.Wednesday was light rain,so I headed back down to them. They came in range, but in the thick brush until that hen came by again and took them right back out the way they came.(#$%$#%#$).After finding out where this hen was staying ,(I already knew where the long beards were)I figured I would go in a little earlier and get between them and her and work them into me. I got in early, But only heard one gobbler and he wouldn't shut up. I could see him only 100 yards out sitting in a tree. I was on the opposite side off the stone wall separating the two fields. I made a few soft yelps and he flew down but was on the opposite side of the wall. I gave out soft purr and flapped my hat like the beating of wings of a hen trying to dry them. He went crazy and jumped up on the wall less than 20 feet from. That was his bad move..lol.. When I shot, there were at least 5 more birds that sounded off within 100 to 200 yards around me. Just a great morning. After I packed my gear back up and headed out of the field, the two long beards I was going after came out seen me and ran. I was home 6:10 am, and got ready for work.. THE BIRD WEIGHED 20 POUNDS 4 OUNCES, 8.750 BEARD, 1"INCH SPURS.
