Trapped from a kayak???
I am considering it. Around the corner from me (about a mile)
There is a cattail marsh quite large 30to40acres 1/3 of it is cattails 2/3 open.
I have permission if I can get to it. Problem is bottom is a soft silt/ muck
No matter which direction you wade in
So im am considering an open cockpit type kayak.
I can count several hundred huts and the bottom is all marked up everywhere you look. Used a small canoe this morning doing some scouting
So gearing up with colony traps. Had a corn crib here that had 1"x2" fencing on it. Notice I sad had
Got plenty fencing to fold up a hundred and cut doors according to my math
Our season runs into march so IF feb/mar repeat. I won't be battling ice. Nothing more fun the baited float sets in the spring

Never did it but it sounds like fun. I haven't seen that many rat huts in years.

Piles and piles of huts bank dens are plenty but you are not walking on anything.
Michigan only allows 36" long colonies. My idea in the deeper longer runs try to put in 2
Non of the water is over 4' to most sign
Ill get conibears in where I can and colonies in where needed
When I can learn how to post photos ill do so.
I would assume a beaver or 2 in there but no sign yet
And I need to traverse the edges for mink they have to be in there thick as thieves

Sounds refreshing or it will be if you tip over, most rat trapping like that I wait for the cold to slow down my K-9 trapping and trap them through the ice with baited 110s! I just shuffle along with my sled full of gear behind me.
