Pretty much what ever your comfortable with. Myself two lbs but i know people who leave there pans loose. I guess a 3 lb + pan tention helps stop small opposoms from geting caught. We,ll see what the guys got to add

I have never measured pan tension and don't worry about it to much. I just take the wobble out of the pan with the tension bolt. Wax and jaw pressure will add tension but I don't know how much.

I'd take a stout pan tension over a hair trigger set up any day the stout tension will get you better catches and less smaller critters that will waste your time on the line. My ideal set up is a short travel to firing and a tight pan so the critter is committed to shifting it's weight making for a better pad catch VS a toe catch and PHD in screwing with your sets after that.
I'd rather miss a critter the first time and have a good catch the next time then pinch a toe and the "game is on'! LOL If you ever seen a K-9 work a froze down set after a snowfall often there were multiple opportunities for it to get caught.

A lot of fox here and a few coyote 2-3 lbs seems to work.

On my bridgers I adjust pan tension with a pair of 440 chanellocks. When pan begins to just start to free fall under that weight this is where I quit. No sure if this will translate to the MBs or not
