Congratulations Timdandy !! Good Luck with the next one. I don't mean to hi-jack your post, but this can be a start for turkey hunters post their hunts. (If you don't mind) Let me know what you think.
I picked one up yesterday. 21.8 pounds,8.5" beard,1.125 hooks. Not a big bird by any means, but a fun hunt. Started out late (had to get Jericho on the bus for school for 0700). Made a phone call to the neighbor to see if anyone was hunting up on his property. Got to the spot I wanted to be by 0745.Got onto the bird around that time. Worked him across two big that are separated by a wooded lot 100 feet wide but the length of the fields to ledge I was on. Just over an hour and a half ,I pulled the trigger at 0930, when he was 15 yards from me. At one point he was within 15 feet and I had no shot... Now, I am going to try get Jericho to shoot one...

Still using my Mossberg 835, 3.5 magnum Turkey Gun with a thumb hole stock. I have taken birds from 10 to 12 feet out to 50 yards. Its like a little cannon...lol.. Now, I am taking Jericho out with a 410, 3"magnum . We had hens with in 2 feet of us the first time out, they were scratching and throwing stuff right on out blind. It was really something to watch, and listen to them. Jericho said , and I quote"they sure are ugly "... lmao. I have to go on the road again this week. Hopefully we get to go out Saturday before his baseball game.. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL !!!!

A couple weeks ago, we had the youth hunt here in PA. I took my two younger brothers out to try to get them a bird. First thing we heard the turkeys gobbling hard on the roost right by the parking area! I thought we were a little too close to them right from the start, but I put the decoys out and got the boys in position. I heard them flying down from the roost as I was putting the decoys out, so as soon as I got down in the blown down tree with my youngest brother, I gave a few fly down cackles. They kinda shut up after they came down off the roost, there were a couple gobbling further off, but the ones that were closer had quieted down. I was afraid they had possibly seen me when I was setting up the decoys, because they were roosted only 100 or so yards away, and it was getting light already. Then we heard some sound off and it sounded like they were coming closer!! They were on the other side of the dirt road from us, and I happened to look down the road and they were coming out of the woods onto the road about 80-100 yards away!! I saw right away that there was at least one gobbler, and several hens. I knew the only way this hunt would work out is if I got really aggressive and got the hen’s attention. Three or four gobblers worked their way out onto the road with the hens and one was in full strut almost as soon as he got onto the road. I started aggressively cutting and giving excited yelps and I got his attention. He started up the road toward us and never got out of full strut. I thought my brother was moving around way too much, but I think the decoy saved us. I’m pretty sure he saw the hen decoys, heard my cutting and excited yelping, and saw the jake decoy right there with the hens. I think he was coming to show that jake a thing or two! He never made it that far, Andrew dropped him on the road at about 35 yards!! We took some pretty sweet pictures, but I’m not sure how to post them on here. 😢

Thanks guys! I love taking young people out and helping them trap, hunt, and fish. When that bird was coming in, I was shaking like a leaf, and I wasn’t even the shooter! Thanks Jerry, I actually don’t have a computer anymore, all I have is my iPhone and I’m not sure how to post pictures from it.
