Decided to get into trapping due to multiple skunks and woodchucks in my neighborhood. Any advice is welcome. Also have some assistance with a loaner conibear trap that is over 30 yrs old from a trusted family member. Considering buying more traps and could use advice on which traps to buy. I also have to be careful of 2 cats that live outside with any traps. Loaner trap is outside of where the cats roam however I smell the skunks by where the cat food is placed. I want to start small and gradually work my way into more advanced techniques. Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated.

Welcome to ATT ! Trapping is a great hobby and will make you a better sportsman and woodsman.
That skunk smell will not keep cats away, may lure them in.
Glad to have you here.

Be careful with Conibear traps anywhere near pets they are not a City/Town friendly trap! Cages in town and coni's foot holds in the country!
For skunks and chucks use fruit/sweet type baits and stay away from fish/meat they attract cats/dogs more.

Trying some peaches on the skunks and I may have found their main burrow. Not planning to use any meat and the cats stay behind the house instead of going to the side that the burrow is on.
