Gathering ant grubs, tools needed:
1 trap, any size, I like 5x7, or towel, or a large shirt 1 log 3-5’ long 6” diameter 1 digging tool, can be hand, large piece of bark, shovel, shoe, etc…
Spread out the trap, close to an anthill, and lay the log on the tarp at the edge facing the sun. Wrap the log 3 or 5 times with the tarp. Then dig into the anthill, down to the ant grubs and eggs, and dump onto the tarp, a couple scoops of the anthill is plenty. Then sit back and watch the ants move the grubs and eggs to the shad from the rolled up log, 5 to 10 minutes is plenty of time. The ants that got dumped with the grubs and eggs will do the sorting for you; they will move the grubs and eggs to the shade ASAP. Then gather the grubs and eggs in any container you can cook in. Place the container of a fire and cook for 5 minutes, while cooking keep shaking the can to make sure all is cooked, if you have cooking oil you can add a tablespoon of oil, heat then cook.
The grubs and eggs taste a lot like shrimp, if you have any you can salt and pepper your meal.
Ant grubs and eggs are plum full of protein.

If only I liked shrimp... But in a survival situation you take what you get. I'll have to try it this summer.
