The best time to go fishing is any time you have time ;D As for what to use way to many factors to account for, what time of year, what's the water temperature, clear or stained or muddy water, day or night, sunny or cloudy, or raining, and that is just a few. Give me some conditions and I will tell you some of the baits I would try.

in the EARLY spring when the water is still pretty cold the bass will be in the deeper water. work them with some deep diving crank baits or some jig n pigs. as the water starts to warm they will start moving to shallow water to spawn. at this point you want to switch to some shallow running crank baits, hard and soft jerk baits, and spinner baits. same baits once summer hits but to include top water lures. once the water gets pretty warm you will want to fish the shallows in the morning and evening as the fish will be up there feeding. once the heat of the day hits, move to the deeper holes, under overhanging trees, shadowed areas, around structures in the water. (anywhere that the water temp will be a little cooler cuz its out of the sun) your best fishing times any season are the first 3-4 hours of daylight and the last two hours of daylight. i fish bass at the semi pro level. if you have any guestions, you can pm me.

It is mighty tough to beat floating jointed rapala, slowly twitched acroos the surface. Spinner baits, willow leaf blade design. I have alway sfound bass like a lure that has action to it. But my dad is a plastic work, texas rig, user. He always seems to do right fine too.

at night buzz baits, and zoro spooks now if the bass are spooky use jerk worms that works like some thing in a panic mood on the surface.the key here is the jerk worm is a soft bait and don't hit the surface hard and that cuts back on spooking fish

if your fishing during pre spawn for bass find a area were the bank is shallow and and it drops off deep. these banks are good bc the bass go up to the shallows when it warms up and they will drop back down when it gets cold. in spawn fish shallow on the beds and thats when you get the huge bass. but if your fishing early in the spring by far the best baits to use are rattle trap ,jerkbait and a jig.

If you want to catch bass you should open your tackle box and throw the whole deal in the water and wait with a net for the feeding frenzy to begin.
