I do not make any drags but i do own some made with 3/8 and what i have seen is a large yote can stretch the hook if the hook hooks up solid.. so what i did with mine is run about a inch long bead of weld at the beginning of the hook st stiffen up the drag hooks some and so far so good ..IMO if you have larger yotes there go with 7/16Th's or 1/2" and this will eliminate any questions of the hook straighting out!!
To bend a tight eye on the drag you will need to heat the center of the rod that you are bending this will allow you to bend the steel easy and even!!

all you have to do is get yourself a piece of pipe the same size as you want your curl on your drag and weld a piece of pipe or a nut thats just a little bigger than your round stock that your going to be bending then just push rod around pipe..the nut will hold your rod tight to the pipe...your pipe will look like this... and your drags should look like this when done... or you could just do this also... or this... this one has a swivel head similar to the tracker drags from JC conner... hope i helped

That bottom one is nice walkercoon. I made some for my buddy like that for rocky and sandy ground. I know how much time you put into that, too bad fur wasn't worth more, it would offset the cost of good equiptment and I think people would buy the better USA made things.

yep they are nice drags but aside from the bent and welded round rod a LOT of work well let me tell you those bent round rod drags arent fun or easy to make either...there is alot more work in those rod drags than you think... steelnecktie i wouldnt weld those reinforcement rods on my catch fingers for me...i would think that in alot of circumstances i face they would ride on top of balled up grass and branches and such and hold the digger spike off the ground more....but thats for me...and if i was making them for the western guys i would put more space between the digger spikes so there is more room between the points for a wider catch area....but with my grass/brush type settings here the narrow ones hang up quick for me if not pre tangled witch i do about 80% of the time...

I know I started this thread but I just bought some nice 3/8" drags at the NTA convention in Ct. for $1.50 each.Very sharp point ,lap link, and a nice bend to them. For that kind of money I may just buy more at the next convention..... Ed Thanks for all the replies.

Hey walkercoonhunter, those are really not reinforcement for the fingers, it's to keep the chain from wrapping up on the fingers. As far as grass and leaves, it just doesn't clog up and ride like you think it would, it actually stays cleaner and digs better with them on beacuse it keeps the fingers clean. I appreciate your input as I'm always looking for ways to make things better.

ok i got ya steelnecktie....i usually dont have to worry with the chain getting tangled because i never burry my drags with my trap.....i just toss it behind the trap on top of the ground and cover with leaves and such....or its pre tangled into some brush or what not....im not a big drag user but they def have a place on my line....
