This is a serious question for you trappers that use jump traps. What size jump do you use for coon? Is the 1.5 the best size for the masked bandits? Do they hold they well enough for a 24hr. trap check?? Reason I ask, I am looking for a single spring trap to use on coons at an affordable price.
Please answer only if you have experience with these traps for coon!
Thanks, CDR

Id go for the #1.5 or #2, or one of the old stoploss jump traps...if you can find them.

cdr,not my 1st choice for coon, caught a few on a drown slide, use them now on rat floats and mink only sets, think it would be a mistake on 24hr check/dry land-I would use a 1 1/2 coil

Get #1 longsprings, one at full strength will hold coon no problem! Holds better then a 1 1/2 longspring! IMO

CDR, you know me and my feelings about (CENSORED), but I hontestly feel a good strong ! 1/2 jump will hold coon just fine, I wouldn't go larger as it will open the foot to be chewed on much to easy. I used #2 jumps for fox last year with fine results.

CDR - i have a very small handful of critters that i have caught with jump traps under my belt. I would not be concerend about a 1.5 holding a coon. Jump traps have really good holding power, muck like that of a LS style trap. Here area couple pics of an odd jump trap that i have. Take note on how they bent the bottom from of the trap to make the spring seem stronger! Yes thise trap has a lot of stout to it when you try to set it.

that bend in the frame is designed that way factory i've seen the original patent paperwork and in experience w jumps/undersprings if the spring will snap the jaws shut the trap will hold a coon on a 24 hr check. imo the inline style undersprings like lyonch shows is the better style than the crossbar frames they made the 1 and 1 1/2 inline jumps as guards also. the crossbar framed guards the guard wire sets under the pan and does bad things during the catch but the inline panned guards the pan is a narrow rectangle that fits between the guard and good catches happen. i know that's more info than you asked for but imo it's viable info per the subject X2, though the Blake design where the Guard is under the dog is just fine.

It is probably 1915 and I wasn't even born until 1942. David

What baffles me about that trap, is that they are taking care of the loose jaw problem during that time!!
