How do you the get the chain to be in the center on a jump trap?

Good question. I am looking at a #14 right now and the only way I can see it would be to weld something between the two rivets. It could be done.

My uncle had some years ago that had a home made rod base plate on them with the simple v in the middle for the swivel or 'd' ring to attach to... They were turned the opposite way on the trap. they ran from the point (one in front of the pan) and almost to the dog.
He said if he had it to do over, he would have put them on one side instead of centered. this would have made changing pans easier..
