Thanks for the video! Right now I am soaking up every bit of knowledge on the subject I can because I have 2 beavers in the freezer and 7 coons I am going to attempt to flesh and put up myself for the first time. Up to this point in my short trapping career I have sold everything green and I think I have a lot of learning to do here. Couple questions for ya: 1. Why didn't you use your necker? How often do you have to sharpen that knife you were using? 2. Did you make that beam or can they be purchased(the big ones)? 3. Do you use that beam exclusively for the beav or do you use it for other critters? 4. Where in Mn are ya? I see central so would that be the St. Cloud area? Just curious. Thanks a bunch for the video man! Good job! You probably have no idea how many of us you just helped!

Thanks a bunch for the video man! Good job! You probably have no idea how many of us you just helped! 1 - I didn't use my knecker because it doesn't seem to fit that beam very well for some reason. It doesn't matter what fleshing knife i use, i touch them up after every beaver. It takes two seconds to touch a knife up and keep that edge, instead of spending several minutes trying to bring it back. 2 - I made the big beam. I'm sure if you want to buy one, you could but the cost would be fairly high. You should be able to buy an 8" wide beam though. 3 - I only use that beam for beavers. it is too big for coon and other animals. 4 - I live 30 minutes from st. cloud. If you ever want to see my set up first hand, feel free to stop out any time!

Two beams hugh? Hey maybe you can try two at the same time! Guess you're probably about an hour and a half away then. You think the fur I have in the freezer will be ok until next fall?? I have coons and beavers and they are frozen green.

Yes as long as they are roled or folded fur out.

Ok good deal. Do you start trapping right when the season opens or do you hold off for better fur?

That was an excellent video lyonch, probably the best I have seen. The winning point is the explaining you do and not assuming the viewer knows what you are talking about. David

Another excellent training video. Your emphasis on a sharp knife and the proper use of it is especially good. Thank You for taking the time to help fellow trappers out. Tom

Lyonch that was great! Though I usually clean skin I do sometimes rough skin to flesh at a later date. It's clear I need to hone my edge a bit sharper!

Ok good deal. Do you start trapping right when the season opens or do you hold off for better fur? Sorry I didn't see this earlier castormaster! I start trapping when season opens. Our fur in MN is usually better at our states opening date, than some states see in their prime!

Thanks Big! A sharp knife makes the fleshing a lot easier! It allows you to make more effortless motions thus resulting in being able to flesh more in a day and feel less tired.
