Listening to trapping radio awhile back someone ask Clint about collecting a little dirt from each catch circle didn’t matter fox coyote bobcat all dirt in same bucket then using that dirt sifted over and around new set I thought it was a pretty good idea

It really depends on your animal population. Are your canines pressured, are they mostly young of the year versus adults, what kind of experiences they have had at sets. My experience has been to pull the trap and make a new set outside the circle. That was with trapping coyotes in Montana and NW North Dakota for the last 47 years. I have had a hard time catching a coyote in a remake on a 3 to 5 day check.Unless it rains or snows on the trap site post catch my population of coyotes avoids catch circles. I'm sure their are guys that will say it's no problem for them to make catches in remakes.I trap some really hard pressured coyotes(I don't know what there government agency is called now but it use to be US Fish and Wildlife Service. The governments trappers have a lot more resources. If they get some coyotes they can't call and shoot, snare or catch in traps they fire up an airplane or helicopter to clean up.I've watched them do it at least a half a dozen times. This all seems to connected to lamb prices. High dollar lambs lots of pressure on coyotes.Cheap lamb prices maybe not so much.It in the end is just politics. Sorry for the sermon Be careful that circle dirt you want to use isn't contaminated with bait and lure smells it will make "diggers: at your sets.Just my experience.BILL

If you're talking about the Clint I think you're talking about, just be careful taking to heart anything he spouts.
If he can think of some way of marketing a new type of dirt that will suck in trapper's and make himself a buck, he'd be the one to do it!
On the other side of your question, if you are trapping red fox and collect some dirt from the catch circle it would certainly act as an added attractor, at least I have found that to be the case.
I don't think I'd mix coyote and fox dirt unless you're using it for Coyote only.
In my area, Coyote catch circles seem to deter fox from the area. I followed some fox tracks in the snow one day straight towards one of my sets that I'd caught a couple of Coyotes in and the fox made an extra wide path around to avoid the set.

Yep, I always reset at the edge of my trap circle. I have tried both with re-makes and my percentage is higher staying outside of the catch circle with coyotes. I use grubstakes for this and they seem to work really well. Hope this helps.
