Our season opens October 1st and with everything we've had going on here lately, I'm way behind in my preparation. I may not even hunt the first week and that'll be a first for me. Bear season opens up north in a few days and I guess I won't be doing that this year, either.

I typically wait until the middle or end of October, but I might try to get out earlier this year. Our trapping season comes in a week earlier this year so I will have an extra week to catch some canines before the rifle hunters start blowing holes in them. The ones I catch after deer season are usually ditch fillers.

Our season was moved up to Sept 1st for some reason? I have taken several youth out for the early kids season (rifle/Sept) and them deer are skinny with no meat on the bone so no clue why they moved the season up for that. I'd take a deer with it's winter weight on it over a fuzzy rack any day. LOL

They changed the start date of our season here a few years ago, too. It opened in mid October for years and they changed it to Oct 1st.
dfabs, Don't you just love it when somebody puts a softball sized hole in them for you?
LD, I've always been a meat hunter at heart and I'd take a good fat deer over fuzzy antlers too. Glad to hear you take the kids out, that's a beautiful thing.
Good luck with them and don't forget the pictures.

I used to bowhunt. I sucked at it.

I have killed more deer with a bow then a gun. Outside of trapping more game with a bow than a gun.
