Here's a question for you guys who are restricted to cages for trapping.
What size do you consider optimal for trapping red fox?

Do you consider the 18" height and 36" depth minimums?

I have caught a couple non-targets doing ADC coon work in the spring in the 12X12X36" coon cage traps.

That's interesting that you could catch them in that small of a trap. Maybe I'm thinking of to large a trap. I've been thinking about this Safeguard 42"L x 15"W x 18"H model... Should I go with the larger 48"L x 15"W x 22"H model or will the smaller one do the job?

For K-9's, I would guess that too big is better than too small, sgs.

I turned down a couple of fox jobs this year because I don't have cage traps for fox. I'd like to get a couple of traps that are just right. Not to big, not to small.
At around a hundred dollars per trap, I hope to pick well.

Could you make them for cheaper?

Possible I guess but never having made a trap I think I'd like to buy a good quality trap to use as a model should I ever try to build my own.

I have some experience trapping pups, both red and grey foxes ar dens up to 6-8 weeks old in cage traps. It seems if you're on location, most any food odor wil work well. I have used fresh caught dead moles with fair success.
