You mean in your half of the state it is! Ha. You'd still be within the law using outside lams too, correct? I added baseplates, center swivel, and #3 springs to some 1.75's last year and it really speeds them up. Perhaps too much force for fox. The helper springs from F&T seem to balance the arms better so they aren't crooked instead of swapping to #3's.

lol yes the part of the state that dosent count, both traps are close to 5.5 inside spread so the lam's would have to go inside not out to make them 5 3/8. outside lam's wont close the trap up any.

Did baseplates, new chains, swivels, springs, outside laminations, and night latch to a bunch of old square jaw victor #2's last summer.
A lot of work.......but I have to say I REALLY liked them. Just not practical to do that a lot.

Well with the trap companies making sheer jaws a trapper almost has to take what they built and better them.Coarse anytime you laminate the jaws the extra weight will cause you to HAVE to add beefer springs.Any more anytime I get traps in ,I just set the welder up and do it and get it done.
Back when fur was high a man could buy traps that were already made beefer and pay the cost and come out ahead but not anymore, you have to modify and go that way.
I am just thankful to the Lord up above that when we buy new trucks,we don't have to do them like the traps and do all the updating they need to get them to run right, but the way things are getting and as high priced as everything is,we might, who knows,Larry

I have a bunch of old no2 coilspring Victors. I have modified all. Some have reverse jaws. All are bubble jawed so if I do latch onto a coyote it does not pull the trap apart. I have gone a bit further then the above mentioned modes also. Two things I have done are to grind out the levers to a high lever, the jaws need to be ground down outside a bit for this to work, and added lever extentions so I could set them easier. The first ones I modified years ago I four coiled. I now use no3 music wire springs as they do the same job and are easier to install.

I know the old #2 victors are not everyones favorite but they were the "trap" years ago that us kids use to drool over.I have about a dozen left that must be close to 40 yrs old and still in nice shape.I plan on bringing them up to a better standard with baseplating and laminations.May try to add barker pans and use them as a quality mink trap.
