I like the solid jaw face, makes the trap look cleaner, IMO.

It was an absolute beautiful job. I welded as a professional for many years and don't think I could have matched it. David

Some sweet work you've done there Walker!!! Does my eyes good to see some super nicely modifiyed traps!!!!
If it's ok to ask on the main forum, how much did you charge to modify those traps for your customer?

mini here is what i charged him...... here is what he wanted me to do...
the number 3's i had to replace pan screw with a #10 stainless bolt and washer put on the 4coil kits(he sent me those) baseplate them, spot weld the cross frame laminate with 3/16 roundstock, and make jaw face solid and polish.. bubble jaw tips they cost him 8.00 a trap
#4's inside laminate with 3/16 square stock, spot weld the cross frame and spot weld the center locator, replace the pan bolt with a #10 stainless bolt and washer, bubble jaw tips they cost him 6.00 a trap from what i have seen these prices are very reasonable if not at the bottom end for mods like these....customer was very happy with the workmanship and over all job and prices....

walker what size wire are you useing in your welder ? I use both .o25 and .030 and the smaller wire weld better on the jaws facing (alot less to grind off) on your baseplates drill a 9/16 hole a half in from the hump for your D ring and weld it up flat to the bottom , a fillit weld , makes a alot better hold on the basseplate than off the sides of you baseplate to the trap VERY NICE WORK ,,,,,,,,,,Fluff

fluff im running .30 wire...i dont like changing wire all the time so its the best of both worlds type thing....
as for the hole goes in the baseplate you show me a animal that will pull my baseplate off there welded like i do and i will give you a 100.00...but i do know what your saying....

walker, could you give a little information on the welder you used? I currently use a flux core welder and spend half my time cleaning weld berries. It does a decent job on the mods I do, but I have heard nothing but good about using gas with the wire feed welders.

I used an industrial wire feed welder with gas when we built a sawmill and fell in love with the way it welded so cleanly. But it was huge and was several thousands of dollars. Have to sweet talk to wife into buying me one of those hobarts. Does the hobart 140 run on 110 or 220? My little shed is only set up with 110. What size spools does it take? I do a lot of modifing, but its usually just for me and my buddies or on traps that I buy to turn around and sell. Currently working on some BMI wolfers, but have to wait for the music wire springs and extra swivels before I can finish them up.

the hobart 140 is 110..it can hold a 10lb spool of wire....it will run you roughly 500 for the welder then you need the gas and tank....
