ok all you fabricators. this subject should be fun. how would you go about press forming your own trap jaws or maybe even a bender jig ie a modified bob custer bender? pictures maybe if you have something built

It's not easy making trap jaws. The more you work them, the more "springiness" they loose. If you cut the shape with a torch, or cut it with a chop saw and heat the metal up too much, that's when it starts going down hill. I would think most the trap manufacturers are stamping out jaws with a press and no heat. The problems with loosing the springiness of the steel is when you bend them to put them into the trap frame they don't come back out tight against the frame. Also if they take a hit or bend, they won't come back into shape. Hope this is what you were wanting to know about. If you could treat them to put the springiness back into the steel, I don't see any problem with however you wanted to do it.

trademark of steel must be important. what do you think of stamped form used 1035 or 1045 steel. I think Silicon can increase jaw springiness and carbon can imporve hardness.
Does anybody agree with my points?
