The last time there were drought conditions the price/lb was substantially increased. Is the demand going to be the same? Will there be a very limited harvest? All I know is, come Sept. 1 I will be in the woods, and hopefully have some to sell. You can secure a lot of gas money digging seng, not mention the experience.

last time i dug i got 650 a lb dry weight...its been 4 years since i dug any....that year i hunted all summer and marked on a gps where it was then went and dug...i ended the season with just a few ounces over 9 lbs..but i held onto it until november to sell it...if you sell early you usually take a beating because no one knows what the market is until the big root sale in early november....
and i usually buy stratified seed to broad cast where i dig....and early i had a few nice patches but the hot dry weather has forced that seng to stunt its stem growth and not many good mature plants to harvest...
i did notice that the mature plants was forming the seed pods very early this year in a few places that i know holds seng...but i havent been back to those places in about a month and a half to follow up....i still dont know if i will dig any this year or not as of yet.....

Right here where I live the drought hasn't been bad, lucky I guess. What I see on the ag. maps and other weather maps it looks awful.
Good advice walker to hold till late so as to get the market established, sometimes though, you can get left behind. GPS? Doesn't that take the thrill of the hunt away?
Last year, prices were all over the place, I never did see a " firm" market. One big collector is out of the picture now, age gets us all, I believe his absense was the reason prices fluctuated so much. Thats just my opinion, perhaps I think too small.
While on the subject, any news on yellow root? Drought having an effect on it also?
