We trap small parcels of land 15 to 75 ac the small one are woods with small creeks and the larger one are pastures. We try to puts lots of traps on a spot 2 or 3 doz. and run them for a week then change spots. Have to work 7 to 4 during the week so we set them on Sat so we can take the time get them set right pull them the next sat and move spots. Try to come back to that spot in a few weeks. Second and third nights seem to be the best nights.
My question is this an effective way to trap small parcels, should we do any thing different. And should we redye and wax every time we move?

I like your idea, after you move your traps, come back in about 2 weeks, and trap it again. i have found this is an effective way to trap more animals, usualy after 2 weeks, they are settled down and will respond pretty good. you might change the lure in just a couple of the traps.

when you trap, when you check it the 5th day, change 2 or 3 of the sets, like say, start out when you set the area, make 3 flat sets, after 5 days, change that flat set to a dirt hole set, don't move the trap, just make it look....new, fresh, and exciting. maybe change the lure from a call lure to a mousy bait.
I don't knwo what you weather is like back there.

furfishgame that MIGHT work to a degree but after a while the area will goe dead and the animals are still there .i see this on my line a lot..what good i it to change the set if you are still using the same bait an lure.yes the set is different but the odors are the same.get what i mean .now if you change lures an baits it would work but i move on to hotter location this gives the area a chance to cool down..i fight this problem every season and i am on 300,000 acres.you don't want to catch every animal in a area leave some for seed or give up trapping the next season unless you get new ground to trap on

What you are doing is what I do for the most part. I just rinse and reuse my traps until season is over. I try to use fresh clean traps when I can for canines but I have rinsed and reused traps to catch yotes without too many problems. However I do not wax I dip so the wax may hold more odor and give you more problems but that is just a guess.

What about dye and wax, how offend do we need to redo it? run the traps threw a car wash or high water pressure garden water hose chances are if the trap has connected there want be much wax left ,more so if it was a coon .i do that a lot when i state hop .still produces well for me..now if you are just after cats just use it like it is but a clean trap will give you extra fur
