Marc can you make you hole deeper? Or make a brand new set with a deepper hole and not so big around?

Marc if you are trying to catch a variety of different species I would back your pan tension off to where it will fall from its own weight. Your trap is well blended and it looks like your pan sits lower than the rest of your set area and that is good. Personally I would remove a few of those sticks to make things look more natural you really do not need much of a backing to make your set work. Coyotes can be spooky about working set's that look unnatural but coon could care less. From the sign it looks like Ol' Mr Grinner paid you a visit...

when i get back from my father inlaws i am going to make a whole other set (where we talked about scott) and keep this one working, i will remove the sticks in front of the hole and i will make it deeper. and i will also back off the pan tension as forrest said and yes its very muddy out there.

well i got out there and i got it done but man its impossible to cover tracks in mud, the mud here is real sticky but the sticks infront of the hole are, the hole is about 5-6inches deeper with a nice big clump of markerel in there and its putting out a loud smell, the pan now falls under its own weight

you need a deeper hole to make them work your set dont let your pan get to lose i run my around 1 1/2 pound for coon and my yote traps are set at 2 looks like your snow melted to makes for a muddy mess... i like using sand for my trap beds it dont pack up as bad as black dirt some guys use moss to...i try to save money but sometime you gotta spend it

well the ground froze last night, i dont like this trapping in the cold thing, so i what i did was reset the trap and coveredt it with leaves and lighty covered the cleaves some some frozen dirt just to keep the leaes fro blowing away, cant wait for the snow so i wont dig have to dig in the ground, ive been thinking on how to make a new set and i got it all thought out for this cold weather and all i need is some snow
