I figured I would get a discussion going on here about the smell of SKUNK on your furs. I personally like the smell of skunk , but the buyers don't. Like all on here I take pride in my put up furs. But at fur sales in the past, I have smelled many furs with the heavy odor of skunk. I'll start with my mix I use if the animal smells like skunk. I mix 2 table spoons of Dawn dish detergent (regular sent). 1 table spoon of baking soda.1 teaspoon of peroxide. This is added to 2 gallons of water. This is enough to do 1 to 2 animals only depending on size. I mix it in a 5 gallon bucket, put the fur in and start scrubbing as if I was washing my own hair.(if I had some). Rinse it really good, then hang to dry before boarding. Does any one use any of the store bought skunk busters that are out there ? Let us know how they work if you do.

I wash all my yote hides and that's about the only time I have ever got a sunky smell and dang I DO NOT like it -[still remember the spray job from couple yrs. ago] what I do in a large plastic tub [think it's call a rope tub] add 1/4 bottle of that cheap Wally World shampoo - what ever you like the smell of -good shot of Dawn and wash down good, squeeze as much water out as you can , next tub rinse water squeeze excess-last tub add Downey to it-BIG caution- too much or too long soakin and your hair is fixin to fall off-squeeze as much as you can out- next step is I have a old wash machine drop them in wash for about 5-10 minutes and run thru the wringer a couple times [watch yer fingers] -stick em on a adjustable stretcher[Trapper Mark's LOL-Buddy]-put them in the air dryer inside out- not dry- turn and hang fur side out- stick the inside dry tube inside stretcher hang and open all outside vents-next morning pull them off attach the dryer tubes, close outside vents and they are ready to ship-little combing- no smell ready to ship .. what I also do is bag and freeze all my hides that need a bath till close to end of season - kind of long answer but what the hell got a month and days till season--D-
