90% is self-confidence I remember starting out and having the traps and no clue about locations to set it was very frustrating to say the least. Then came the snapped traps and toe catches from poor bedding/trap adjustments when there was any action.
It's my belief that if your not 100% confident in location and equipment you trust hope rather then skill in your efforts to make a set, not consciously but your mind is filled with doubt making 100% effort impossible to reach.
Set on sign to start out (tracks/droppings/trails) use draw stations if you lack sign but set away from them to avoid non targets. Set in locations with limited access to limit options to work the pile.

As long as you keep learning and putting steel in the ground you should be having fun. And that is what's important.

I think Law Dog is correct. My backyard line is usually my conference builder and this year it sucked. MY whole season has has been off but that is the way things go. Have fun and don't think that a bad season has any thing to do with your abilities. K9's and cats will have you scratching your head. Keep at it, learn every thing you can in the off season and remember we live in the south. There is not much money in it for us it is a labor of love.Every possum is a dozen turkey's that can be had.😉

Last year was my first year trapping k9's had a friend of mine show me in the summer how to set for them at his place when I was visiting him he lives 400 miles away from me found a great place to set when season opened set it and on the second check had a toenail in the trap that was on October 21 and I set and set on sign for two months took pictures and sent them to him and he kept telling me you setting for one of the smartest cridders in the wood keep at it and it will happen on December 21 I caught a old female most of her teeth were gone keep at it and it will happen
