My K9 and bandit season opens 1 month to the day oct 10 before any mink/rats/beaver does. Any trap closer than 50' to water has to be a dp style trap.
Been going over those today. Mostly dukes and coon shackles
Double checking tags and made a decision to shorten chain to 5 links and reinstall swivel
Also drilling a couple small holes in the bottom to drain water
Last fall a couple hard rains really filled them up.
We leaned on dixie cups stuck over the top after that which worked nice other than the shredded mess they made when coon fussed with them.
Its always about trying something different.. will still employ cups when weather calls for it.. hoping the holes will get us through the lite rains

Those wax paper cups work in a pinch plus I just pick up the big shredded chunks and the rest just breaks down.. praying for less rain lol

Try the American Coon Cap. I use them to keep mice out of my DP's.

You can buy them directly from American Coon Cap. I make them for him. They are injection molded out of plastic.
