Out of 90 only 1 said yes? Are these farmers? These people you're asking, are they saying they have problem animals? What kind of traps are you using for fox and coyotes?
When looking for places to trap,I first look at a map and look for areas that are likely to hold animals or are good travel corridors. Then look at a platt book and see who owns the land and then go ask for permission. Be repectfull and courteous of their time and stipulations they may have. If they say no I thank them for their time and give them my card and ask them to give me a call if they have any problems. .Most times after I get permission from a farmer and get a good rapport with them, I'll ask if they know of any other farmers that maybe having problem animals. Usually they do.

Newtrapper, the best way I think to get permission is to look the farmer in the eye and tell him, that you want to help him take care of all the critters on his place,I will trap the fox to help keep them out of the hen-house,I will trap the skunks to help you keep the rabies down,I will catch the coyotes to make sure we protect your baby goats, calves and chickens, and I will try to guard your place from all the critters on the place. If he says he has trouble with skunks, then you become the skunk trapper known in that area,if its Red Fox then be known for that. That makes the farmer and rancher feel secure, and last but not least, young trapper or not get you a business card printed with your name and animals you want to target and that will help, ten fold.It makes you look professional.LarryGene

Sounds to me like you are asking wanna be farmers with 20 acres and a horse. You need to find large tracks of land. I start with a plat book and focus on large farms and go down in size as I go. A farmer running 2000 acres is going to be better shot then 10 farmers with 20 acres.

Sorry for second post on this but I thought of something else that can help.Write some articles in local paper on problem animals and the desire to help landowners with that type problem, also hang out on Saturdays at the local feed store and get to know the owner and tell him to remember to mention your a trapper, ask him if you can make up a nice colored poster to hang up mentioning that your a trapper needing ground to trap on to help area farmers and ranchers,Be sure to say FASRMERS and Ranchers, they all like being INCLUDED!LarryGene

A plat book shows all the land borders and who owns it for a county. I would assume most states have this info available in some form. Here in Missouri it is in a plat book that you purchase at the county court house. It is a great thing to own it gives acreage and land owners name and all roads and water ways.

Well let's see if you know no one in the county have no idea where to start and one platt book gives you the info that lands you 3 places to trap I would say 41 dollars is a small price to pay. Around here one tank of gas is more then 40 bucks. In a perfect world we would know everyone but if you don't a platt book and the yellow pages will save a ton of gas.

That is an expensive platt book.
Another resource is to get on your County Auditors Website and see if there is a map. Here in Ohio a lot of the county sites have these and show all the properties an individual owns in the county. Which is a real help for me because I have some owners that tell me to trap all of their property but they do not have time to show me all of it. Some have property all over the county.

also newtrapper get a release pole and tell the people that the animal will be removed from the property alive. and you can make a sturdy cage that bolts together.
