Raccoon opened the 5th here way too early for them. Coyote and fox open year round. I wont get started here until the 25th or later for land critters. Beaver opens the 15th will be out after them right away as they are not worth much, but have to take my quota to keep the registered trap line.

Picked up one of the lamb killers today in a flat set. They are looking good. Missed one in a snare, he was carrying a meadowlark in his mouth,, as it was laying in the crawl under in the fence dead where the snare was set. That is a first. I am thinking that bird hanging out of his mouth had something to do with missing him, just a little coyote hair in the lock. I have snared bobcats with cottontail rabbits in their mouths. Anyway the coyotes are looking good. Got an order in to Lawdog, going to put some fur up this winter with those top self lures he makes.

Start catching 'rats next Saturday, almost all my gear is ready other than a few colony traps. Need to bring a few loads of wood in to the shop yet along with a handful of odds and ends. Biggest issue is finding time to put out signs for snow removal, was sick all week and last weekend, first time in six or seven years, really gave me the ol one two. Scouting all the lakes this weekend from dawn until dusk, sorry to all duck hunters in my way, business is business.

Take a large gulp of good honey once a week and it will also build your immune system. I do it all winter long and if I start to feel a cold coming on, I step up the amount of honey I eat.

Looking like it's going to be a cold water opener on Saturday, low forties and freezing in the evening. Should be good tor a short while yet, at least on the bigger lakes. Hoping the weather does a 180 and gets a little warmer, heck even a 90 degree turn in the positive direction would be good.
