with the cost of fuel and no break in sight had a ? on how to make a catch on otter fast to limit fuel cost on a line that was a very long drive. this is what i call blitzing a line i picked this up from clint lockler and tweaked to my style. its a little more work up front on setup day and if your not carefull you will kill a line for a couple of seasons till new critters fillter in. so lets start with body traps this is a simple set up where on a normal line i will set just the best slides and pull outs but this one i set every one i find every tight spot in the water gets a trap any choke point should be covered beaver chanels will get 3 to 4 traps or as many tight spots you can find you want traps open when beaver and muskrats fill them set your 220s on every tight spot you can find on the land trails the more the better because you will stack the coon and possum and you will want traps ready when the otter come threw just be sure to get the jaws of the ground so they work if you get freezing weather. ok now foot holds use as big as you can you can set these just like the body traps i use them on pullouts and feed beds they really work good on otter toilets just because they show you where there going a lot of times i set 2 #4 ina really tight group they just about touch they dont fight near as hard with 2 traps on them. you can also blind set them on the trails in place of the 220s. now my fav. snares if you can set body traps you can set snares every slide and pull outs get a couple with the slides if the slide already has a anouther trap at the water snares go to the top the trail will get covered from one end to the other. on a reg. line your lucky if an otter comes near 2 of your sets with this method he has to run a mine field the only way around it is to swim right down the middle of the river. but be ready to work on this method your set up time will take alot longer and you will have alot more line upkeep but you will pile the fur up fast and if your not carefull you can over trap a place fast. hope this helps you guys save some gas. to learn more on otter snaring go to my site to learn more
