When doing the feet do you split the pad to make getting down to the last knuckle easier? And if so do you remove the fat from the pad area?
Found a perfect male fisher today, and backed up about a mile of busy interstate to get it. He has played part in a couple practical jokes and figure to keep him. Fisher have been out of season here for quite some time so a quick call to MDIFW and to the table he goes. Those new Knives of Alaska I got are pretty slick.

Aww, I didn't think to go around the pad. Dang it that'd of been the way to go too. Got a little too fast for my own good towards the head and front legs. One nick on a leg and slightly oversized eye for my penalty. Hide looks really good but with the bruises it was like skinning a bloody marshmallow towards the end.....
Any issues with saddle meat using Van Dykes syn tan? I did a fox a couple months ago and seem to recall leaving it on mostly. Odd skinning a critter other then beaver, which I clean skin as best as I can.
Thanks Mark!

I'm not sure about the tan i never used home tans ever! IMO i would flesh the animal clean taken everything off. Now the number one reason a hide slips is because the tanning salutation did not reach the hair follicle's and the dermis which is the most important part of the tanning proses.Double check that kind of tan because some of them tans required you to use a pickle before you use that tanning oil!
the best way to cut the eyes out is to cut in to wards the eyes like you were trying to cut the eye out..LOL...remember you will have to split the lips or cut them off because they are to thick for a really good tan same with the nose take all cartilage off .
