Any coon you catch in a snare will have a mark, or at least that has been my experience. I have caught them by the neck, neck with one leg and the middle, all have marks. SOme marks are worse than others. I would stick with traps if at all possible. Good Luck

i agree and disagree with redrooster on this one. I think you have a chance of marks with a snare. but most are not through the skin. it leaves a line in the fur where the snare was. but with just a little bit of brushing, it goes away. i use alot of snares on my line and have alot of success with them. they are very affective. espcially when dealing with trap shy critters.

I make my own snares. I use 42" of 3/32 cable. I have used smaller cable but for me it leaves more damage to the hide. This year i used 5X5 on supports. I really liked them. They don't leave a burn circle. I caught 5 coon in one trail at the end of my road.

i also use the 3/32 cable. i think length is more of preferance to the trapper. i use 60". MY reasononing is like a longer cable cuz more often then not i find the animal hung from a low limp. dead. or wrapped around a small tree or something tight to the point they cant move. (less struggling=less cable burn) thats just my opinion and theory to snares. everyone does it different.

The marks I was referring to is the marks that you see on the inside of the hide. If you do not get a quick kill, there will be a bruise mark. I use only 220's now for coons and have great success with them. I mostly get behind the ears catches, and there is still sometimes a mark on the inside of the hide, but they seem less that what I get with snares. I still use a lot of snares for yotes. Snares definatley have a place in trapping, just not everyplace.

i agree with that rooster. body grip traps, foot holds, and snares all have a place.
