you're probably going to laugh at me but here we go there is a rat coming in my house every night, i dont know how it gets in but it does, anyway the little bugger wont go in the trap and wont eat the poison i have set. ive seen it a few times and its the same one, has a white patch on it. anyway i was wondering are rats smart enough not to go in traps? because it eats my cats food, but when i put that in the trap it doesnt care. ive tried - bacon - chocolate - peanut butter - cheese P.S the trap is humane cos i want to kill it this is the trap(and it isnt going in cos the food is still there) www.beststuff.co.uk/store/images/T/big_cheese_rat.jpgi live in huddersfield, england thanks for your help

Samhtfc Welcome to ATT!! Your our first member from another country...
Can you use Glue traps in your country? If so staple a few to a sheet of wood and bait the middle and place them along a wall you know they are traveling. If not you can try blind setting snaptrap's along travel ways just block the trap well and you should get him...

If you take away the food source, it will eventually leave. As long as there is a free meal it will return. Rats are very smart.

Samhtfc Glad to have you here. Both post above are good information. Snap traps along the wall are hard to beat. I have a very deep hatred for rats. I hope you get it.

try putting out some pepsi, coke in a container it will drink it then have to fart or burp but rats and mice cannot do that so they blow up
it might sound weird but it works

got rid of the rat, now theres a few mice, they wont go in the mouse traps, but they are going in the rat trap, so i made the rat trap mouse proof so thay cant escape, only problem is i can only catch one at a time. anywayyyy im 100% they are comunicating with each other, when one get caught all the other 5 behind my cooker squeal for it!
what am i gonna do? ive taken away all food sources and i cant put poison encase my cat eats it, my house isnt dirty, why are they here?

Are you sure they are mice and not baby rats?
This is by far the best mouse method I have used. No snap traps, no poison, and will kill multiple times without reseting.
First fill a 5 gallon pail about half full of water. Then add black oil sunflower seeds to the water until the water is covered and perhaps a 3/4 of an inch thick layer is floating on top. Next smear a good sized glob of peanut butter inside the bucket about 3 inches above the floating seeds. Opposite the peanut butter place a ramp of some sort or a chair they may hop on to check your table for scraps. I used mine in the woodshed and just placed it right up next to my wood pile.
The mice will smell the peanut butter and seeds and think a free and easy meal is in store for them. They will jump down to the floating mass of seeds thinking it is solid, sink through, and quickly drown. I caught 9 in one weekend last fall. The dead mice will either sink or float inside the seeds somewhat out of sight.
Not my idea, but man she works! Luck!
