Which moon phase do you guys notice the best results? A guy once told me the dark/new moon was the best trapping, however I just finished up watching Locklear's Cat Collector and he mentions several times about trapping during the full moon is best. I logged the dates of all my catches this year and couldn't find much correlation, then again I don't have high enough numbers to tell. How about you guys?

I seem to do better on coons in the New moon phase and better on yotes, cats and fox in the Full moon phase. Possum do not care, apparently and I caught only a small number of skunks (8) so I really could not tell.

Interesting observation on the skunks, I only caught 4 skunks this year. I was running a lot more traps than I ever have in the past, but I used to always catch way more skunks than I did this year. I wish possum numbers would go down!

During a full moon, my records show me that i catch most of my k-9's during this phase of the moon. During a new moon, my records show that i catch my water animals such as coon, mink, etc. etc. However, what trumps all the moon phases, is a change in the weather. watch you sets close 2 days before, until the day after a decent front. You might be suprised as to that it doesn't matter what the moon phase is you catch animals. Another one that plays a big role, is sky cover. When it is cloudy, my water line catch goes up. When it is clear, the land line seems to do better.

I have been wondering this myself, just guessing but I would think that predators would be more active under a full moon, therefore making them more prone to be trapped

It is of little concern to me with only a little over two months to trap. I would say if you intend to only trap for a week of vacation I can see the value of this knowledge. I also will say weather is a far bigger factor then the moon.

I have found a full moon has been kind to me with beaver. Looking back at my field notes, I have done better under a full moon.
