Anyone do any spring beaver trapping this year? If so how many did you harvest? What kind of sets and lures we're used. Here's some video of one of my beaver catch's.

Oh okay. All the 13 I have caught in the last week and a half have been caught with simple castor and a green stick.

I did and had a great time doing it. I used castor mounds, well, castor on a stick mostly as everything was froze up still. I used a few 330's in runs and got a few that way too. I had luck with Foxpro cherry, Fighting Beaver, Moundmaster 1 &2, and some of my own magic potions I made. I miss it already as I got many, many more then I did chiseling holes and using baited snare poles.

Spring beaver'n can be tricky. Bo the beaver want to mate (castor, sac oil), or do they want to eat more (fresh food such as poplar, willow ect. Maybe they want both. Sometimes it can be a crap shoot what to use.
But it looks like you 2 boy figured it out right fine.

My best set uses Green poplar and Beaver Castor combined.

My sets for spring beaver are extremely simple. I rarely walk more than 50 yards off of the road to a set. I normally take a 330, 2 pieces of 3/8 rebar about 4' long for stabilizing, and a stake. I look for any type of an indent into the bank so that i have natural guiding and a pinch point already set up for me. If i can't easily access some mud for a castor mound, i nomrally just place a little castor based lure in the grass and move on. I make 2 sets per stop, and i move on. After the castor based lure has been on the line for a couple checks, i will then place a small amount of sac oil at the set for a change up. If you are fur trapping beaver, or just taking the cream and moving, they are very easy to catch. When you need to take them all out and that last beaver is trap savy, you can feel like your performing rocket science to catch "the last one".
