That is the only thing I CAN catch. They are not a furbearing animal and, in Maine, cannot be trapped. I just killed one this morning with my 22. Got three more while turkey hunting a couple weeks ago. Pulled quills out of my female lab last night and ma did while I was turkey hunting as well. I have no love for the things. The worst part, tied with destroying trees, is this time of year the young are out. Very small quills to pull! Bad porky, no live-ie.

You should have said so Bill! Dang, I just walked out there with the kids, about 1/3 mile away, and covered it with pine branches. We put a little coyote lure up in a tree and on it and set up the video camera.
I don't know what they have for glands but boy do they stink! Not the young one from today, rather the 2fer I shot out of one tree a few weeks ago. Very strong smell. Kind of like a weasel odor. Urine and poo maybe, I dunno. yuk

I have a ton on Porkeypine ADC, I sell teh quills and eat the meat. fried in some BBQ sauce cant beat it.
1 1/2's work alright for em. I would use a NO 2 but I trap around alotta dogs, so the 1 1/2 is better.

I never trapped one but I do have one mounted. A number of years ago when I was in the UP of Michigan, I walked out of my buddy's cabin early in the morning to take a leak. I walked up to a tree and started taking care of business when it seemed like all hell broke loose. I had some small branches & stuff falling on me and all I could think was that there was a bear in this damn tree. As I'm still taking a leak, with my other hand I turned the flashlight up into the tree and seen porky about 5 foot above me with it's back turned. I said to myself "Self, this is really gonna hurt"! Now not only did I have to piss but I'm about to crap in my drawers as well. Up in that area, I don't go outside at night without a pistol and so I had my .22 on my hip. I let go of my little buddy and drew my gun. Yep I shot this white pine eating bastard before it shook out it's quills at me. I couldn't imagine being in a hospital having someone pulling quills out of my penis at 3:00 in the morning. That just isn't my idea of a good time!!!
