not imo yea you can hold them in a little #11 but otter are big and tough you want a big trap to hold them

Several states used no.11's to transplant otter. We catch a few every year but theyre protected and the no.11's hold them till released or they ride the driowning cable to the bottom. Gramps trapped otter and preferred a bigger trap though, he really liked the Blake & Lamb no.2 1/2 SLS and no.2 DLS. Persoanly if I was chasing otters to keep for the fur trade a no.11 would be considered but a 1.5 or 1.75 would probably be what I would go with as a compromise for the coon and mink that invariably stumble into water sets as opposed to a no.2 or bigger. We've caught a few in 1.5's and they held just fine but our otter may be alot smaller then yours? We're beginners in the otter trapping, it's just been the last decade we seen any.

I have not caught an otter yet but according to Johnny Thorpe's video you do not need any bigger than a #2 coil

Michigan had a otter relocation program going on many years ago to ship to MO for stocking the state. They wanted them caught in #3 O/S longsprings back then! I like the 220 the best as it takes a lot to hold an otter and the 220 is quick and easy!

one thing to remember is trap placement because with the otter's long body they can steal the bait and be gone with out you even knowing it.

I've only caught one otter and it was with a Victor #2 at a dirt hole. Caught by the right front foot, it gave an impressive fight as I approached and the #2 held it with no problem.
