Made a mock trash mound set today, wanted to get your opinions on it. Made it into a "V" with a dirthole at the point of the V, jaw bone from a cow and a couple turkey feathers stuck in the mound. I made it in a walk-thru style. Left the trap exposed so you can see where it is. Front View Side View

Thanks Bill. I am open to any suggestions on things you would do differently. Never used trash mounds before and wanted to run how I made it by you guys.

remember trash mounds is just that its a pile of trash with things blended in rather it's a white walmart bag to wool to feathers .i take my foot and rake a pile of leaves and then scatter a couple hand full of chicken feathers for eye appeal and hang one on mono to flicker in the breeze .i will also take small logs on both sides and put one in the front to make a walk threw affect.
one of the best is done with remakes after it has connected .why? the whole mound smells of cats and it looks like a cat stached some left over food.
i have also done the same thing with droppings by taking a bucket of sand and dumped in a pile add my backing and a log on each side and one 8 inches in front and add several droppings and then spray with urine as the mocks a cat torlet and they eather use it or walk threw it and you can bet eather way if you done your job the cat will be there

Looks like a great set for cats. What would be your target animal for this set you made? I have seen guys take coyotes and fox with this set as well. If K-9 would be your targeted critter, i would get rid of the sticks on each side of the trap.

In Wisconsin, the trappers are not aloud to use feathers, fur or any visable bait but the mount set is aloud and lets say you are in a pine stand with a old logging trail intersecion---you could rake up or take your foot and scrape up a mound of needles, bed your trap next to it and add gland lure and or urine to the mound. The rule in Wisconsin was put in place so non target animals and birds of prey wouldn"t get nailed.---------yes we do have enough of those stripped kittys also.

hey buddy the set looks good , find you a duck or squirrel hunter get all the feathers & tails you need , I use the heads off the squirrel and ducks , hide the head in the pile but make sure the eye is visiable , cats cant take it , and I like to use a urine at them make them as natural as you can , when you and Kalie cominy back for a visit ?

Thanks for the tips Fluff, during the fall I have access to about as many ducks as I want, couple of my good friends hunt them real hard.
We will be down again, I can gaurantee that! I'm just not sure when, it's hard to get away for more than a day with the farm and all, was lucky to stay as long as I did a couple weeks ago. When I come down next we'll have to send a few coyotes to the other side
Does trap placement and blocking look ok on this set? Anything you guys would do different?

Sorry Fluff, It is a nice looking set---I didn"t mean to degrade it---just to state the laws in wi. I could still use ribbon or plasic bags in the pile.
