I see people posting that they will redye and rewax during season. How many of you actually do that? I will openly say I don't I rinse them off let them dry over night and they hit the dirt again. I also speed dip only when a trap shows signs of needing it. There will be many traps that are only washed off hung up and then reused one season to the next. I just can't imagine having the time to do that every so often during season. I balance family ,work and trapping. With furs to skin and handle traps to pull and move I just don't see how that is wise time management. That all being said I am curious to hear what your solutions are.

I dye and wax every year the ones I used the year before, I use last years dye 1st for the rusty ones, water traps and conis. I then put them out and let them start to rust again a 2nd time. Then with only my yote traps left I then re-dye and wax them at the same time as its faster that way to do both at the same time as a hot trap will dye and wax a lot faster!!! But I keep enough traps this is done before/after the season, doing it during the season would be very hard to do but some people may have no choice due to lack of traps!!

I am sure i will catch grief on this, but for land traps i dye and wax before season and that is it. If i catch an animal in a trap, i scrape the jaws a little to knock any animal debri on there off, then back in the ground it goes. I only swap a trap out if i start to see any rusting, or it needs any repair whatsoever. If i do need to repair a trap, it gets tossed off to the side until the off season. I am more concerned about my own scent being at the set, than the smell of the trap. Main reason i don't do midseason cleaning is because i don't have time to do it.
Water traps all get spray painted along with the conibears before season and only touched up as needed, but never touch up during the season.

I use to do that at one time. Now I got more traps than I can run.So if one gets shined up buy a yote or coon.I got clean traps to replace them....I never worried about the dye, just re-wax.

To be honest, i really dont worrie about it to much. If i notice a trap that got real shined or is rusting pretty fast, I'll pull it, put a fresh trap in if i have any spares, and re-wax it when i get back home.
If i dont have a spare i still pull it and re-wax it and then re set it in the AM again.

Traps get hosed off before starting a new line. Boiling and waxing is for summer.
