When putting up grey squirrel I've always split the tail and tacked it open with a piece of 1/2 inch hardware mesh but I was told I should leave the bone in when I stretch them and they are more marketable then. Anybody want to chime in?

They are going to Mepps Tackle Co I would guess I would go to their web site and see how they want them!

Yeah they want the bone in. Should I sell to local or ship to NAFA?

I wait until winter for bone in to avoid slippage if shipping!

Got a mepp's catalog? If I recall they wanted the exposed end of the tail salted. If you send em to NAFA pit them in female mink boards and split the tail.

If you are selling just the tail to Mepps, they want them bone in.
If you are putting up the pelt for the fur/novelty market, then you should remove the bone from the tail and tack the tail open to dry. Pelts for the novelty market are almost always sold tanned and a tail with the bone in it doesn't do well at the tannery.
