Got a possum yesterday! about average size I guess, I know most folks would turn thier nose up to a possum but hey! I'll take what I can get! What size stretcher do I use for it? I am freezing it and gonna send it home the day I leave here to head back home. I'll get a picture on here as soon as I can. Thanks

WAY TO GO, HOMEY! Just remember one thing, possums are thin skinned, take it ezzzzzie fleshing it. When you freeze it, leave as much fat as you can. Roll it up good and tight and put it in a ziplock bag and push out all the air. Congrats! Mike

I believe all trappers are or have been possum trappers at some point. If they are around you'll eventually snag one, want to or not. Like md said easy on the fleshing especielly the belly. Congrats and hope you're having a good trip.

This will make your life a lot easier if you are going to catch and put up a lot of possum, but I wouldn't do this with any other animal. Don't flesh it, put it on a stretcher and pour Floor Dry or Stall Dry, available at a feed store, on it and let it set overnight. The fat and grease will dry out and harden and you can flesh it a lot easier and not have to worry about cutting it. That doesn't mean you can be careless, but it will flesh a lot easier.

No, that possum ain't the only thing you got. You got trapping fever, my friend, and you will be filling traps for many years to come.

I read one that if a man isn't a prospecter and doesn't have 'gold fever' you could pay him a hundred dollars an hour to do what prospectors do for free, and he would quit after a couple of days.
I know that is true of trappers too. If a man isn't a trapper, he wouldn't do what we do for any amount of money, and we do it for nothing and if we get a possum or a nutria or an otter, or a fox we will go back out tomorrow and do it again!
We stupid!
