what about northwoods

|
|
Post by Furtrader on Apr 18, 2013 12:22:08 GMT -5
thats a good question... i am pretty sure (not possitive) that northwoods footholds are no longer in production... if they are... i dont know who would be making them...
I know that Oneida Victor manufactures the Northwoods Body grips so i would assume those are made in the US.
but do not quote me on any of this... lol

Dont know were there made but I got a doz. full midified 3s off John Graham , nice looking trap [dogless] its a little lighter then a Bridger 3 modified .... what I will say is I have never ran a Montana trap so I cant say how it works on a line or how it holds up .. still waiting on that doz. Bridger dogless 3 [last I heard out in Aug.] figure this season to try them both and which ever is the best of the two will buy a couple more doz. next season-- D-

yeah I'm thinking about getting some montana's for yotes next season because from what I can see and what I have heard they seem to be pretty well biut out of the box.

as far as ready to go out of the box, i like a bridger #2 modified. or an mb 550. both very nice out of the box traps.

the only thing that i don't really like about a bridger number two is you have to get it modified so that out of the box it doesn't have that center ring around the cross frame but I am definitely with you on the mb550 except for the cost of course which i'm sure is worth it.

The ring really isnt much of a problem...at times I like it better than having it baseplated/center located.

i am confused about this "ring" your talkin about...are you talking about the D ring? the bridger #2 modifieds are basepladed with a d ring just like mb's....

When you get the bridger number two's not modified they have a square ring around the cross frame and that's what the first swivel of the trap connects to

Only thing I do to a modified 3 Bridger is add a pit pan system and a shock spring-- fuond out it was easier to buy em modified then to build em, just dont have the time--D-

that's another reason why I wanted to go with montana's because they seem better built out of the box without having to pay extra fo being already modified.

I used some standard 2 coil Montanas For coyotes this year. Took them out of the box, degreased them, leveled the pan, waxed them and caught fur. Nice trap.

Stop ,, The Montana is a dogless trap .. the Bridger 3 is not at this time .. they are comming out with a dogless 3 Bridger and it is suspost to be out in Aug. [been waiting on it for over a yr.] the pan on the Montana is just about the same size as a Bridger pan -I like the bigger pan [Pit] - and the Montana and the Bridger do not come with a shock spring , I like them on my cat/dog traps --D-

The "new" Bridger #2 & #3 traps , made by MTP, come with a center swiveled factory baseplate riveted to the base of the trap.
No more rectangular, movable attachment ring

The only difference between the old style stock trapand the new style stock trap is : - Factory baseplate with center "D" ring swivel - stainless bolt and elastic stop nut instead of the standard brass nut and bolt for pan tension - they were the same price as the old style Here is a pic of the FACTORY added baseplate on stock #3's

I modify traps on the side.
Recently had to do some work on some #2 and #3 traps for some customers from Michigan and Ohio. The traps were shipped directly from F&T. They both wanted traps baseplated and the jaws laminated with a few other goodies done. I was surprised when they arrived with the factory baseplate but it is a nice addition by MTP.
With that said....I would assume all Bridger #2 & #3 traps being sold now will come that way. Those that don't will be older stock.
Call MTP if you need to know for sure
When I order from F&T, I type in the comment box that I want the new style with the baseplate

I bought some Bridger 1.5 Specials... They are very close to Northwoods Traps. I think Bridger may be making the Northwoods under their name. Either way, I love my old 1 3/4 Northwoods, but Bridgers are some very, very nice traps.
