Oklahoma trappers, House bill 1857 will reduce the number of signs that you have to post. It will give you the use of body grip style traps when completely submerged under water.
HB is not the "best" law change but its a building block. There has been no legislation in in the last 20 years other than license requirements and fees that will have this much effect on trappers in our state.
If you are for this bill, great! If you are against this bill, great! Just get off your seat and encourage your legislature to vote in your desired fashion! Take a stand and quit complaining! The future of trapping in our state is in your hands at this very point in time. What kind of legacy will you leave your children? What will you tell them when they ask you "what have you done to try and make it a better environment for trappers in our state?"
I thank you for your time and consideration. Your vote of yes or no is appreciated----either way, you are a person of action and not just "talk". Thank you.

Friends, The House Wildlife Committee reviews and votes on legislation this Thursday that will effect outdoorsmen and women in our state. Please contact them and encourage them to vote in your desired fashion on HB 1857. It is too late for a letter but a phone call is personal also. Call them and let them know your thoughts. If you are unable to call all of them, at least contact one and share your views on HB 1857. A phone call is worth 1,000 emails!!

HB 1857 was amended in the house Committee. We lost the body grip style trap wording. The remainder of the bill was cleaned up to where the only changes from current law are the reduction of trap signs to just one per entrance and doing away with resident fur buyer itenerary. HB 1857 past the House Wildlife Committee via 7-0 vote. HB 1857 passed the House Floor with a vote of 96-0. This bill is now in the Senate side. It is in the Senate Tourism and Wildlife Committee. If you would like to see this HB 1857 keep its momentum moving forward, please contact the members of the Senate Tourism and Wildlife Committee. It's a good thing for me as a trapper. Next season I will only have to post signs at property gates and not at the corners of adjoining land owners..... It will greatly reduce the number of signs I have to post. This will benefit all trappers in Oklahoma, unless they enjoy posting lot of signs.
