The stake set has been working well for us, 2 of our 3 fox and 3 of our 5 cats came on this set, my question is that we have been putting the q-tip with cat gland on top of the stake like told and fox urine at the bottom like told but we have been putting both on out sets, thing that we are covering all out bases, is this the right thing to do or are we messing up by putting both on ever set?

one rule if it's not broken don't fx it.
i don't do it that way but with them odds DO NOT CHANGE ANY THING..sooner or later you will see more cats in your traps.remember this cats are suckers for any type of gland lures. remember this as well after dec the cats are mating and often refuse bait so they mark areas just like canines .except they rub thats why those sets are hot this time of the year.
on a new location try this make two leaning post sets add nothing but a gland lure to one and the second nothing but urine and see if you pull a double

let me point this out...after dec i only use two sets and both are post sets.the rub post and the scent post. wait a minute why two post sets and no bait holes or flat sets.during that time frame animals start looking for mates and will often refuse bait .i play this HARD AFTER DEC.cats i make a rub post with a good rub lure made for cats and as a back up i put a scent post eather with a gland lure or urine.if two cats comes threw 90% of the time i catch both at once BUT if a canine comes threw first 90% of the time they will hit the post with the gland lure or urine and that leaves the rub post open for cats if he comes threw. now some times the sets will produce two fox or a yote and a fox.if you catch a young tom cat or a female remake that same set in the catch circle it will keep producing cats BUT if you catch a old tom move that set and start fresh.old toms puts a fear factor on the young toms because the old toms will eat the young cats

What is a rub lure? Where can I get some? rub lures are a dangrous lure to work with.it's not harmful or a safety thing.it'a lure if one drop hits ground level it's will cause the animal to roll.it will work in a deep hole but not in a shallow one.under standing this will improve your catch rates.the problem with rub lures people tend to miss under stand how to use it.rub lures works great all season but work better after dec. there are a couple out there but nothing really i care about using. grahams has one but it's to watery and it's hard to keep off the ground, scott philips has one called all 9 that is made for cats but the canines loves it more then th cats but it will catch cats.the same with dobbins back breaker.scottrainbolt likes my southern rub but again canines are highly attracted to it.i will have a new rub next season made for cats called bama cat rub. dealers ask trappers what they want in lures but they don't want any lure that causes rolling but they don't fully under stand the value of a good rub lure.a good rub lure has the same value as a gland lure IF it is used right for now i hate saying this but get dobbins back breaker

Going to trap a Buddy's lease next week, lots of yotes, several cats, and some fox. Lots of 4 wheeler trails going to stands and around lease, they are beat down real good right now, deer season just ended, but not used in the last 2 weeks only going to get to trap 4 nights, was thinking about putting a gland post, urine post and a dirt hole at every intersection on the lease, is this a good plan to put lots of furs on the ground in a short time. Critters should not be pressured, not any trapping on the lease in several years, lease is 3000 ac.

Thanks Bill Think we will leave the rub alone for now, stick with what is working for us. Do some more studying and add the rub to our tool bag next year.
Have been having something eat the q tips off the gland sets, no tracks what would do that, not the hole thing just the tip that is diped, the rest of the q tip is still under the rubber band?

It could also be a squirrel. i have watched them eat lure very very rich in skunk urine. Them tree rats will eat more things then a seagull.
