Do you really get better prices from NAFA?
I've never sent any furs to them. I have a country buyer who I think gives good fair prices and what I don't spend in his shop, I take the rest of my fur money with me.
I don't think I'd like waiting so long for my money.

Some buyers not all buy and ship to NAFA , I bought fur for Ed Bauer in the 70S and early 80s he told me what to pay and was paying better then any buyers local or traveling -that sayin I had fur left over that didn't get shipped and lost $10.00 a coon hide [avg.] at a TN. trappers auction - I can wait on my money just so I don't lose any , the price of traps/supplies/gas these days ya need every dollar you can get-IMO- -D-

Fur buying and selling is always a gamble. Buying is multi layered, many small buyers sell 'locally' to 'regional' buyer who may have direct link with the overseas tanneries or may ship to NAFA, FHA, or Greonwald. Pelts may change hands several times before reaching the tannery. Some years local buyer might pay more early than the furs bring at auction (depending some on the harvest, some on fluctuating market)and some years the auction may double the country buyers price. Almost always dried pelts are better for the trapper, if I don't like the buyer's offer I can take my pelts else where, but if I freeze and thaw to sell in the grease I can't really carry them out and look for another market.
