Am hearing a lot of "doom and gloom" for the fur market next season. Is it not too early to tell if anything will be sellable!! Yes, it is a world market and very fickle at that; however, I am of the opinion that it is too early to tell. For the trapper that sends to NAFA, it will more than likely be the first auction date before he/she finds out if all the fur is unmarketable. For the trapper that sells to a local buyer, he/she should get a solid word on what is going to sell right before season as that buyer may (or may not) have an order to fill. Either way of selling your fur, I am of the opinion it is way to early to say "doom and gloom" for all species of fur.
Raccoon in the tank? Yes; however, I did sell most of mine even though I didn't target them and had a few as incedentals. Coyotes sold 100% according to NAFA at this last sale. Is that all of the yotes the furriers will need? I did darn good up there on my yotes! Bobcats didn't sell great at NAFA in my opinion but I sold all of mine locally for a higher average than NAFA's regions except the Westerns----- there is that multi market advantage!
It's a crap shoot as to where to send your fur local vs NAFA. Time will tell if none of our fur will be sellable.........

I am the same as D I am trapping no matter what. Too old to change. CDR you folks south of me have an advantage in that you have fur buyers. I am stuck with NAFA or FHA and ship to both. They are both holding fur over for me now and sometime in the future it may sell. I am still going to send them stuff as I do not have storage space for it.

There ya go Mr. Frerotte , had fur up at NAFA last year and fur again this year .. after the bottom dropped out after the fur boom in the 70s early 80s I put up and sold coons at a $5.00 avg. that was a lot less then that $45.00 avg. - figure just too damn old to stop now and figure to try and ride it out till I take the big chit ,, then I hope some real trapper will pick up my traps and wear them SOBs out -just sayin LMAO -Fixin to be my 51st yr. - still slingin steel and still ain't got a dang clue what I'm doin-D-

Even this year they sold some of my yotes for a dollar and good January coons for $3.00. It wasn't that long ago I was happy with $3.00 rats. When I was a kid in the mid 50's rats were 50 cents and it was lots of money to a 10 year old. Still trapping 60 years later high or low prices.

Sometime in the 90s. My son and me hunted and trapped hard. I told him he could have them. Took them to Sterling Fur and averaged a dollar each. I scraped and stretched every one to. Oh well.
