I trap along the river and if I don't set the 1st day, I am always in danger of losing my trapping area. I have A Farm, but trying to get any around where I live is tough. The old guys have had them for 20 or 30 years and I don't like to snake somebody else's territory.
Over the summer, I spent several days traveling around my area talking to farmers trying to get some farms, and they were already taken. What cranks my chicken is the guys who trap them get permission and half the time they don't even set on it. But, that's the game we play I guess.
Last year, I was going to set for beaver in the area I trap along the river and I waited a couple of days and wouldn't you know it as I was humping my gear down along the river, I see some guy from about 10 miles down river setting the area I was going to set. Go figure but I don't own the land so "thems the breaks."
That's ok, I always catch some critter's and last year, I started the first day and only had one blue coon and the fox were still good early on and got better later. I caught a really nice coyote last year as well.
I'm no pro and never will be, but I sure have a good time.
Oh, by the way, I got 20 nice sets in today between the river and my one farm.

My first check (Monday) resulted in 1 grinner, 1 skunk and 2 small coon & 2 snapped traps, one was flipped. I think it was a coon.
I killed the possum & skunk and I released the 2 small coon. I have found that early in the season smaller coon seem to be blue and the bigger ones seem to be ok. So until I catch some bigger ones, I'll keep releasing the little boogers!
2nd check (Tuesday) again 2 small coon. I released them both and one fox set snapped.
With the rain coming, the critters should be moving tonight so we shall see what tomorrow holds.
Thursday and Friday will be spent remaking wet muddy sets and moving others back from the rising river.
I've always had good luck on rainy nights, so I am cranked for the morning.

I have not had a stinking trap snapped! WTF!!!
I guess I jinxed myself!
Most of my river sets are under a little water, which is actually good since it'll wash human scent away. I've been seeing some fox tracks.
My canine sets are good, but I'm going to have to redo them since it rained...
Ahhh, the life of an Eastern Trapper, ain't it great.

Well ,I went and through in 4 sets for K-9's today. Two scent posts, one dirt hole and flat set. I wore a pair shorts and a t-shirt.76 degrees, sweat was running like a water fall. I will get out and set some more tomorrow now that there is a cold front coming in.
