I caught this little female this morning. It's funny I had a Tom cat in this very set the day before. I took my 8 year old to reset it and after he walked all around the set grabbing the tall pieces of grass and such, I explained to him (again) why we don't do stuff like that because of all the human scent, etc. I let him lure the set up and this morning this is what was waiting. I think I'll let him do whatever he wants when we're resetting from now on. The set was a Trench Set as explained in Russ Carman's "Trapping the Eastern Brush Wolf". I used Carman's Blackfoot and after several days of no action, I also added a squirt of Carman's Pro Mix Red Fox Urine down the hole as well. The trap was an MB 550.

I remember a demo, at the Colorado Trappers rendezvous, where there were about twenty people standing around watching a set being made. Couple folks spit on the ground and half were setting down in the grass. Didn't make any difference to the coyote that got caught there that night and it wasn't a pup. Said a lot about scent control and being super clean.

Caught #3 this morning!
You know I've caught all 3 in catch circles where I've caught other Coyotes or other critters. So much for the theory that a Coyote won't enter a catch circle!

More than once I have caught a dog, remade the set and the next day caught a coyote. Caught just about every critter there is and rebuilt only to have a [Bobcat/yote] something waiting for me the next day- as for sent control posted this before - the Old Gal was out with me I was settin for yotes and made the prettiest set , turnd around and she had T-P on the ground not 5ft. from the set-- usin my good commucation skills I didn't say a thing -next day the biggest male yote of the season- she still won't bottle that for me-D-

Yeah, freeze over night, snow in the morning, thaw by 2pm, keeps a trapper busy.

Either rain or snow but this freezing rain BS before it snows is the pits going through the waxed dirt like crazy here. Today was a beauty of a day sunny and no wind seldom do we have both on the same day , make hay while you can!
