I had a trapper tell me that he mixes coffee grounds with Peat Moss to cover the traps. He said that it really helps cover up the scent of the trap. I would think that coffee would be a scent that animals would not be used to, and scare them off. Has anyone heard of this.

I have never heard of that either, but I certainly would not try using it myself. On the Akaskan series of shows now on TV they are using coffee grounds as a repellent for bears and wolves, saying that they dont like the smell. But really, about the only times you will have problems with scent on a trap is if you accidently spill lure or bait on one, leave blood on one, or scorch your trap wax, I set many traps bare handed, its no big deal, a coyote will know a human has been there no matter what you do, gloves or no gloves, just dont have a strong concentration of scent in one spot that draws his attention. I've wondered about this when I heard that drug dealers use coffee grounds to jam the drug dogs noses.
