Was going thru traps before I dyed and waxed yesterday .. last year I ran out some I don't run and saw something - the swivels were stretched , bent and some crushed a bit - these were new or all most new traps and used once or twice , they were not crunch proof swivels.. so now I have to go thru and replace all the swivels on a doz. traps .. guess I really should have seen this at the end of season - just a hint check every thing on yer traps way before season - D-

alwase a good idea, one bad swivel or link could cost you that one prime fur you been waiting for. also I know last year I was setting some coni,s I realized they had no tags on them, I carry tags with me but it's extra time putting on tags when I should be setting traps

Post should be checkin sets. I had 2 otter catches one a #48 Newhouse held a huge 40 lb. otter. The #11 wire was completely unwrapped and all it needed was a hop, skip, and jump and he would have gotten away but luckily he expired before he was able to do so. Also had another take a bmi 280 mag away, was using rope for tie down. A couple weeks later I was checking the remade set and saw a skeleton on the bottom while pulling up in my skiff. it was the sand flea cleaned carcass in 8 feet of water at low tide. Was able to get the trap back along with a few bones. We have huge otter here, have had them pull out of the old style 330 and anything not 4 coiled.
