My brother who lives in upper michigan like near the top of the mit owns 140 acres a small waterway runs through it..
Apoarently has developed a Beaver Problem
His 10yr old son has gone to the last couple trapping conventions up that way
I called him up last night we (the nephew) and I discussed things. Their water season opens 10 days before mine
So ill be crating up some #3 #4 280 and 330 and heading north for beaver.. will take a few #1 and 1 1/2 for mink/muskrats
The attempt more than anything is a learning experience probably for both of us
But if I can get him to see and set on sign.. proper set building will come.. main thing I really need to do is get a good set of safeties for the body grips.. never having dealt with anything but the J hooks on the springs are there springs.. are any better than the others.?? My first thought was ty wrap and cut when ready I have several dozen 1/2" ty wraps.. but then I thought lets look online..
And duke has one and another painted yellow looks like a large safety pin.
Was going to make my own by cutting one wall out of some 2x2 sq steel stock make a U to slip over the bars And maybe pin the U
Just don't want him getting hooked up in on... we will be doing some garage instruction before hand

I've seen a guy take some solid round stock and bend it around to about 4 inch circle it looked like big open key ring that was his safety for all his coni's

I'm wondering. I have a couple old broke 110 springs. Die grind the spring from the broken arms and stretch them a bit.. kinda sounds like what your describing??

Now my 12 yr old son really likes his sleepy creek safety I took para cord and big foam river cork on neck lanyard so he don't lose it and he has two rules. Rule# 1 safety on conibear before it goes in water Rule#2 thumbs always on top of coniber never inside them unless he is just hell bent joining the 330 club
